Chevron Corporation is an American multinational energy corporation.  It is one of the world’s largest integrated energy companies and is headquartered in California. The Company has proved reserves of 11.3 billion barrels of oil equivalent and a daily production of 2.7 million barrels of oil equivalent. Chevron provides administrative, financial, management and technology support to United States and international subsidiaries. The Company is active in more than 180 countries of the world.

 

Strengths

  1. It is highly diversified in gas, oil and geothermal energy sectors, including refining, exploration, and production. 
  2. Chevron is the world’s biggest manufacturer of geothermal energy and employs around 67,000 people globally.
  3. It is the second-largest incorporated energy corporation in the United States and is one of the biggest companies in the world.
  4. Chevron Company is U.S. based multinational energy corporation.
  5. Chevron has strong financial position and constantly increasing revenue each year.
  6.   Chevron Corporation is one of the globe’s six "supermajor" oil corporations.
  7. Chevron Corporation has strong global presence in more than one hundred and eighty (180) countries.
  8. It has big history of mergers and acquisition; some noticeable are: 
    a. In 2005, Chevron acquired the “Unocal Company”. Unocal has the big South East Asian   geothermal operations. 
    b. In 2010, Chevron acquired Pennsylvania based Atlas Energy Company for $3.2 billion in cash and extra $1.1 billion in debt owed by Atlas.
  9. It has a global marketing network in eighty four (84) countries with about 24,000 retail sites.

Weaknesses

  4. Employee conflict in Nigeria and Legal action by the Iraqi Government resulted in declining sales of superior products.
  5. There has been a constant decline in the revenue amount of refined products.
  6. Chevron’s gas and crude oil reserves have been gradually declining constantly.

Opportunities

  1. Worldwide energy demand would augmented by a surprising 36% between 2008 and 2035.
  2. Oil demand in 2009 was 84 million barrels a day and is expected to grow up to 99 million barrels a day in 2035.
  3. United States has enlarged domestic oil production for the 1st time in a generation.

  6. Risks associated with conducting business outside the United States.
  7. Most experts forecasted that the United States had only 25 years of gas assets, and that it would require importing at least half of its requirements in the future.
